A
Altcoin
Any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin. Examples include Ethereum, Cardano, Solana, and Dogecoin.

Bitcoin (BTC)
The first and most well-known cryptocurrency, created by an anonymous person or group known as Satoshi Nakamoto.
Blockchain
A decentralized digital ledger that records transactions across a network of computers. It forms the backbone of most cryptocurrencies.

DeFi (Decentralized Finance)
A blockchain-based form of finance that removes intermediaries like banks, offering lending, borrowing, and trading services.

Exchange
A platform where users can buy, sell, and trade cryptocurrencies (e.g., Binance, Coinbase, Kraken).

HODL
A slang term originating from a typo of “hold,” used to describe keeping crypto assets long-term despite market volatility.

Mining
The process of validating transactions and adding them to the blockchain, often rewarded with newly minted cryptocurrency.
P
Private Key
A secret alphanumeric code that allows you to access and control your crypto assets. If you lose it, you lose access to your funds.
S
Smart Contract
A self-executing contract with the agreement directly written into code and deployed on a blockchain like Ethereum.

Wallet
A tool (software or hardware) used to store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies securely.
